Paul Battles cherishes his faith, his family and his community. His name defines the term servant leader. He knows he is blessed to be a part of this special place in Northwest Georgia and believes he should always work to preserve and promote its welfare.
Throughout his life, Paul Battles has proven himself as a professional and a true community servant, already making a difference with the issues that matter. Paul has actively involved himself through civic and community service organizations. It is important to Paul that Cartersville/Bartow County is a place that his children and grandchildren will always be proud to call home.
A product of Cartersville City Schools, Paul met his future wife in homeroom at Cartersville Middle School. After graduating from Cartersville High School in 1967, Paul and Marijon Bennett married in 1968. While attending school at Southern Tech, Paul served in the 108th Armored Battalion of the Georgia National Guard from 1968 – 1974, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 1971 Paul began a successful career in banking when he was employed by Cartersville Savings and Loan, a working relationship that would last until the early 80’s. These were important years for Paul and Marijon. Paul went on to graduate from Shorter College with a B.S. degree in Psychology and Minister Relations. In 1972 the family grew with the birth of his twin daughters Kory (McDaniel) and Kerron (Bonds). Marijon began a rewarding career in education with the Bartow County and Cartersville City School systems.

Paul Battles’ Christian faith has always been a vital part of who he is. In 1981 Paul took a full time position as Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Kingston. This followed with a move five years later to Peeples Valley Baptist Church in Cartersville until 1994. Remaining close to his faith, in 1995 Paul re-entered the banking profession when an opportunity presented itself with Crescent Bank of Jasper. During this time Paul pastored, bi-vocationally, at Friendship Baptist Church in Cartersville where he continued until 2000. Paul’s responsibilities with Crescent Bank continued to grow. In 2005 Paul was named County President. Though Paul remains on the Board of Directors for Crescent, he retired at the beginning of this year from his full time position.
